Leisure time
Las Palmas boasts a wide range of cultural and leisure activities, as well as an active night life. Beyond a programme of well-established events such as the Music Festival of the Canary Islands or the Drama and Dance Festival, there is a range of popular and religious festivals that afford visitors the opportunity to have fun and to become familiar with the many cultural influences that throughout generations have given rise to the local
population's idiosyncrasies.
The already mentioned Santa Catalina Park is very close to the Atlanta Hotel. It is one of the most prominent parks in the city with a colourful and intense street life. Both the Science Museum and Edificio Miller, a venue for a range of cultural events, are located here.
The park lies at the heart of Carnival celebrations, a festival that is equally popular with Canary Islanders and with the thousands who come from practically everywhere to join the fun.
The choice of leisure activities is complemented by cinemas, open air bars and restaurants, theatres, discos and so on, many of which are to be found nearby. Public transport services are also close at hand, so visiting other city quarters couldn't be easier.
